Started painting in 1938. Bought a paint set shortly after marrying Leo N. Moss and took lessons when Carolyn and Hugh began school. Taught from 1961 to 1995 in home studio, senior citizen centers, recreation centers and art stores. Some students were with her for 15 years. Has won numerous awards in judged shows. Had many exhibits, demonstrations and commissions. Had mail order business painting animals on fabric during the 50’s. Had a gallery on McKinney Ave, during the 60’s. Went on countless painting outings and tours in and out of the USA, adding to her subject matter. Most recent commission was a portrait of two Russian children in 2002.
Always knew she wanted to either be a musician or an artist. (Has played piano for a class at East Dallas Christian Church many years.) Has a strong faith and love of nature’s beauty that show in her work. She says, “I just wanted to paint…” and often painted the same subject several times. Enjoyed the learning experience, especially with Vivian Aunspaugh, with whom she studied 10 years and continued to befriend her until death. Enjoyed the teaching experience noting that it was excellent therapy for relieving her students’ stress. Loves sharing her art and has given many paintings to friends, family and charitable causes. Keeps her prices reasonable and offers payment plans so her work is affordable.
